Twisted Currant
The Twisted Currant is a traditional tea room in Porthleven, Cornwall, with a shabby chic feel (not a doily in sight), a bright fresh space and a cosy welcoming atmosphere. Our mission is to champion home made food. Susan produces her own cakes, pastries and bread on site, having honed her skills as a baker for over six years at Trevarno Gardens, near Helston.
Twisted Currant offers a varied menu with weekly specials, all freshly made using as much locally sourced Cornish as we can get our hands on. We specialise in the traditional cream tea with light fluffy scones, Roddas clotted cream and Boddingtons strawberry jam, all washed down with one of Tregothnan's declicious teas grown in Cornwall.
The tea room caters for a wide range of dietary requirements, so whether you're gluten free, dairy free, vegan, or simply looking after your waist line, there is always something delicious on the menu.
Cakes and Scones
All our cakes and scones are made on the premises by Susan who consitently produces light and fluffy cakes and scones. They are sweet, but not excessivly so, and full of flavour.
We also have the "The Chocolate Cream Tea" with chocolate chip scones, Cadburys chocloate spread and clotted cream, and a "Gentleman's Cream Tea" with cheese scones, Philadelphia cheese and red onion relish.
TEA GARDEN
We now have outdoor seating in our new tea garden in the rear courtyard. It's a sun trap sheltered from the wind with lots of planters
Shelter from the sun and the noise and bustle of the harbour. Enjoy one of our renowned cream teas, delicious breakfasts, lunches or cakes alfresco and feel yourself relax and your cares melt away.
Daily Specials
We have daily specials to suit the seasons. We are currently offering mouth watering tapas and crab sandwiches. We always have tasty Vegan/Vegetarian options each day as well to suit all tastes and life styles.
Tregothnan Tea
We sell Tregothnan tea by the pot and take away loose leaf or tea bags. Tregothnan tea is the only tea grown in England and is a delicious and refreshing drink free of the bitter after taste of tanine so common in other teas. For a real treat try tregothnan tea with one of our cream teas.
We are also growing Tregothnan tea bushes in our hidden garden. You are actually sitting next to the tea bush of the tea you are drinking!
Take Away
We sell all our meals, cakes, cream teas and drinks as take aways.
Enjoy a cream tea sitting by the harbour, or on the beach, or take one of our cakes home to enjoy with a cup of tea later.
To help the environment by reducing waste, bring your own cup and we will take 25p off the price of a take away coffee or tea.
Dogs Welcome
We welcome dogs and provide a water bowl. We usually have a dog biscuit treat for each dog.
Baby Friendly
We welcome parents with young babies and children. We have a baby changing mat, baby chairs and are breast feeding advocates.
We also have free colouring for children and dominoes, cards and noughts and crosses for the more adventurous.
Water Refill
We are one of the free refill stations for drinking water. Just pop in and ask for your water bottle to be refilled.

Tea Bushes
We serve Tregothnan Teas facebook.com/tregothnan and Tregothan very kindly supplied us with some of their tea bushes to use in our hidden garden. The four small tubs in the picture each contain a tea bush. Customers will be drinking tea sitting next to a tea bush the tea is made from 🙂
Tregothnan tea is grown in Cornwall. Their tea is very refreshing and can be drunk without milk. You don't get the bitter after taste of tannin on the tongue. You can take milk if you prefer but it is worth trying without.
We sell a variety of their teas so there is always a good choice to choose from.
